Microneedling vs Morpheus8:
which one is for you?

Both use fine needles to trigger new collagen. One adds radiofrequency energy and reaches deeper. Here's how they differ in what they treat, what recovery looks like, and what a real course costs.

The short answer: DP4 microneedling refines texture, pores, fine lines and indented acne scars, with 1–3 days of sunburn-like redness and sessions from $295. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency energy delivered deeper, so it also tightens mild to moderate laxity along the jawline and neck, with 2–3 days of redness and sessions from $800. Texture and scarring: microneedling. Texture plus laxity: Morpheus8.

What each one actually is.

DP4 microneedling uses a clinical-grade Dermapen with 16 sterile needles in a single-use cartridge. It creates precise micro-channels in the skin, and your body answers with fresh collagen and elastin. Treatment depth is set between 0.5 and 2.5mm, well beyond what an at-home roller can reach safely.

Morpheus8 is fractional radiofrequency microneedling. The needles carry RF energy into the deeper dermis, heating it to drive remodeling at a level surface treatments can't reach. That added heat is why it tightens as well as resurfaces. The RF component doesn't target melanin, so it's suitable across all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI).

How we'd choose.

  • Pick DP4 microneedling if your concern is the surface and just beneath it: rough texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, or indented acne scars without much loosening. For scarring, adding PRF ($850 per session, or $2,500 for a 3-session package) speeds healing and boosts the collagen response.
  • Pick Morpheus8 if texture is only part of the story and you can also see softening along the jawline, jowls or neck. It does both jobs in one course, which is what the higher price reflects.
  • They also work in sequence. A common plan is a Morpheus8 course for laxity and texture, then DP4 microneedling afterward for maintenance and lighter work. We alternate them rather than stacking both at once.

What neither will do: microneedling doesn't tighten significant laxity, and Morpheus8 isn't a substitute for a surgical facelift when skin is very loose. For pigmentation, IPL Lumecca is the faster tool. We'll say so at your consultation if something else fits better (virtual consults are $40 + HST, credited toward treatment). Quick questions.

Both treat indented (atrophic) acne scarring. When scarring is the main concern and the skin is otherwise firm, DP4 microneedling, often with PRF, is usually the starting point, and significant scarring typically needs the full 6 sessions. If you also have laxity, Morpheus8 addresses both. Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation.
It is more intense, which is why we numb for 45–60 minutes beforehand. With numbing, microneedling usually feels like a mild vibration and tingling. Morpheus8 feels like firm pressure and warmth, most noticeable on bony areas like the jawline and forehead, but tolerable.
Yes, but not on the same day. We typically run a Morpheus8 course first for deeper remodeling, then use DP4 microneedling for maintenance. Your consult will map the order and spacing that suits your skin, and we will tell you if one alone is enough.
